Mardi Gras Celebrations
Mead Rd. Mardi Gras was started by local Oakhurst residents David and Emily Berg as a way to celebrate Mardi Gras without trekking down to Louisiana. It began as a house party when their oldest started school, and as the kids got bigger, the party got bigger. It’s now a non-profit community wide celebration that raises money to support music and arts education in the Decatur City Schools. Fat Tuesday or very popularly known as Mardi Gras calls for a lot of scrumptious food and bright colorful costumes. With all things green, golden and brown; have a blast at the extravagant Mardi Gras Parades, witness huge floats and a mass of people at the street parties in Stone Mountain. The festival is not all parades and costume, you will find some of the greatest events ranging from paint parties to Mardi Gras walking tours.
