Last November, the voters of Dekalb County voted to begin a new city in the Stonecrest Mall area. The area is comprised of some 50,000 residents living in its borders, which will cover most of southeast DeKalb. That includes Stonecrest Mall with Lithonia just to the north, neighboring Rockdale County to the east and Panola Mountain State Park to the south.
Just recently according to an article in the AJC.com, the new city of Stonecrest has set up in its first City Hall and is up and running. The City Hall is located at 3120 Stonecrest Blvd., Suite 100. The 3,100 square-foot space is temporary and across the hall from City Halls permanent home.
The permanent City Hall will be a 13,000-square foot office space with accommodations for current and future needs, including space for weekly council meetings and work sessions, the city said. The city of Stonecrest is offering services at the temporary City Hall, including business license applications and renewals and alcohol permits. Its been four years coming and now we are glad to have a long-term, solid home, Lary said.
